| Paclitaxel is an anti-tumor and anti-leukemic agent from the bark of yew trees (Taxus brevifolia). It is used for the treatment of breast, lung, ovarian as well as AIDS-related cancers. It promotes microtubule assembly, inhibits the tubilin disassembly process and DNA synthesis; stimulates the release of tumor necrosis factor-a; and induces apoptosis in murine mammary carcinoma MCA-4 and ovarian carcinoma OCA-1 tumors.
